PHILOSOPHY
It is with great pleasure that I teach music lessons. My passion for teaching music began when I first started teaching piano lessons at age 16. It was what inspired me to go into music education and pursue my dreams. I believe that it is important for my students to feel safe and comfortable in my studio. Students should always be set up for success, even if it is just getting the next note correct. Students are encouraged to perform but this is not mandatory. I learned at an early age how stressful this can be and how it made me not enjoy playing the piano. I do not want any child to come out of my studio with the same feelings. It is my goal to impart the JOY OF MUSIC! What a wonderful way to express yourself, to let go of all your emotions and be real, be true to yourself.

QUALIFICATIONS
I have taught private voice, piano, and general music lessons for 10 years. I have also taught general music on the elementary level for four years at public Title I inner city schools and 1 ½ years of teaching voice and piano at a community college. I have taught students as young as 3 and as old as in their 50s. I have also had the privilege of teaching several students with a variety of mental and physical challenges. I have a Bachelors degree in Vocal Music Education and a Masters degree in Music with an emphasis in Education. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Music Education focusing on the effects of music on children with autism.

BIO
I was born and raised in Louisiana, living in Monroe, Pineville, and Shreveport. My husband and I moved here in August so that I could pursue my dream of earning a PhD in Music Education. I began taking piano lessons at age 7 and did not stop until age 23. I was always involved in church music and school music from the time I can first remember. I come from quite a musical family as well. My sister played the piano, the bassoon and sang, my father was a high school choral director, my mother taught piano lessons, my father's father was a music minister, and his sister was a church organist and public school music teacher. So, as you can see, I come by my love for music quite honestly.

BENEFITS
Your child/children will be able to create and explore music in a safe and positive environment. They will be able to express themselves through the use of music, which might not be easily done through any other medium. Also, research has shown that music helps to increase test scores as well as being more disciplined in their studies. If your child participates in class music lessons, he/she will find it rewarding because of the social aspects of the class. Students will also have a better understanding and appreciation not just for music but for the arts in general.
